Avoid Transcode on Re-Authoring? Avoid All Together?
by Streetdog on Jul 7, 2006 at 8:22:46 pm

Working with 5.2 via Avid.

Question:
Is there a way to avoid going thru the transcode loop again when simply adjusting overlay colors? I saved the temp files, but that would require bringing the media in and re-doing all the links, which is a bit of a pain in this project (30 chapters and 18 other clips).

As a sub-question/statement:
Wish there was a way to simply avoid transcode on known good files. Searching here, that looks like a 6.1 thing. Some extra $ to get the upgrade from Sonic and leave Avid's build would be well worth it if the transcode thing is more generous.
I use CinemaCraft SP, which does a stunning job in multi-pass VBR and makes files that are simply slurped up by ReelDVD. DVDit has much more attitude in this department. I believe quality is knocked down a tad in the processing too.

Re: Test-Reimporting Transcodes Shows m2v Length Difference
by Streetdog on Jul 9, 2006 at 5:59:23 pm

I made a disc and saved the temp files. I tried reimporting the media per the first post. The AC3 files are the proper length. The m2v files imported from the temp directory are 1:11 to 2:11 shorter than the origionals... though the disc plays perfectly!? Anyone have a hint as to what's actually going on?
Thanks.
