Re: Crashes on Startup.... Avid DVD 5.2 (aka DVDit 6.0) by SS Scott on Mar 18, 2006 at 7:26:42 pm
ok, so you say on startup. are you trying to open an existing project or a new one? Wondering if it is choking on your assets or the ones the application ships with.
If it is really on startup, and it is when you are clicking on the desktop icon and opening a new project, maybe something got corrupted somehow in the assets that the application ships with. In that case, search your hard drive under programs > avid > DVD by sonic > content and put all of the content in that folder into another folder called old (or whatever you want to call it). Then try to relaunch.

I had 6.1 repeatedly crash during startup "run time error" today for the first time. I rebooted my system and now its working fine. I have a canopus Rex RT system.

Now out of the blue I cant re-open any of my finished DVDit projects. When I try to open them I just get "untitled-1","untitiled-2","untitled-3"...ect and none of the project assets load. Boy this is buggy software.

"file-open" the same way I always have. yes I reinstalled the program and kept getting the run-time error crash at startup. Im now trying to reinstall again. I never was able to output a project with 5.1 audio.

Yep, now I cant even run DVDit Pro 6.1. I get a runtime error every time I start the program. I should have left it as it was. While I couldnt re-open a project I could at least start a new one.
Im going to DVD Architect full time now. I like using DVDit for certain projects because its so fast and easy but its at a point I cant even output a project with it.

In some cases, DVDit will fail to launch if multiple optical drives are installed on the system. For example, if you have two DVD burners or a DVD burner and a DVD-ROM on the same system, it's possible you may run into a launching issue.
While a fix does not exist at this time, you are encouraged to submit an incident to Sonic Online so that you can be contacted and made aware of any developments in the resolution of this issue.
Fortunately, a work around does exist. Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device manager, find the CD/DVD-ROM Drives section and expand it. If you have two drives listed there, right click on one and select to disable one. Now try and launch DVDit. Once DVDit successfully launches you can reenable the drive in Device Manager.
If this does not fix the issue please contact technical support via Sonic Online so I can troubleshoot further, there are other things that can be tried. When writing in, be sure to include any system changes you've made since before this issue started happening. It would also be helpful to include a system info file. This can be exported by going to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Info, File, Export.

Kevin regarding my issue with 5.1 audio pass thru you have left me hanging at Sonic on-line for a few weeks now. One support issue I started you "Sonic" never even replied back. This has happened to me on more then one occasion.
6.0 is going to be the last DVDit version I purchase.

Our support system experienced a major failure some weeks ago that we're still recovering from. By the end of this week, every currently logged DVDit incident along with future submissions should be caught up to date and will be monitored continuously.
Measures have been put in place to ensure this sort of lapse won't occur again. Sorry if this has caused any delays.

SS are you on the Sonic support team? The program has resorted to not opening again after it worked once on Saturday when i renamed the file folder you suggested...... It crashes on the second instance of "asset loading" after timeline loads..... I have installed and reinstalled and dumped the folder and installed numerous times to no avail.... i even copied identical folders from another Avid (that works), ie dlls, content etc. still doesn't launch..... i have the txt file of the dump..... i just dont know if you are part of the team to understand it. I have left an e-mail for my installer to see if he has any suggestions....
Thanks for you help, you seem to be passionate about dvdit pro, and i appreciate all your previous postings helping other users...

I agree. Thank you for the help SS. I am gratefull for it. However its all getting a little frustrating. I hope this program gets its problems worked out because it is a terrific program. BTW I loaded 6.0 and its working, tho I still cant reload projects. I cant figure out the reason for all this because I didnt move files, rename them, or change drives.
