ID3 Tags Not Saving / DirectX Compressor
by Simon Dunn on Jun 4, 2008 at 12:43:04 pm

I am using Cool Edit Pro, and whenever I save out an mp3, with ID3 tags all filled in, it doesn't seem to save them along with the file.

Any thoughts?

Also, it would be great if anyone can direct me to a good DirectX compressor (free).

Many thanks.

Haven't used CoolEdit in a while but I seem to remember having the same problem. I always wound up opening the mp3 in Winamp and adding the tag info there.

Yeah, it's very odd. It worked fine before, now it's broken. Editing them in another app is a good idea though, thanks.

When saving, make sure the 'save extra non-audio information' box is checked.

And what exactly are you looking for in a compressor? Any I've found that outperform the included one cost several hundred dollars.

Just had a dumbheaded moment - I can of course change the ID3 tags in Windows Explorer, using the Advanced properties tab.

As for a compressor - I'm after something for vocals really - something to polish up a podcast a bit more.

I suggest getting to know Audition's built-in compressor. Unless you're after a specific sound (opto, SSL, API), Audition's is as transparent as any!
