Improving Edge Tracks
by samus64 on Nov 4, 2006 at 1:40:52 pm

Hi,
I'm trying to create a good edge track of a lady who initially walks side on to the camera and then turns and approaches the camera. Her torso up is framed by the still(ish) water of a lake.
The problems I'm having currently is the track drifts easily. I usually have to intervene every third frame. I have 1100 frames for which I would like to try and create a matte. For the track I'm using 'large motion', no perspective, 'Auto Channel' 100% pixels used. Not many other changes to the defaults.

I was wondering if I could help mokey with the edge track by treating the footage in Photoshop first? Say, increase the contrast or perhaps increase the saturation to up the colours and make them more distinct from each other. Would this make any appreciable difference?

Also, I read in an earlier post on this forum I think, that for tracking a human it helps to have seperate contours for the arms and legs. However when I tried this, it created problems during the 'Remove' operation when the contours would overlap as the legs crossed each other! Is there some special tag I should be giving these 'limb' contours'?
