Even though Sony has a PMW-100 option, I highly recommend the
Canon XF300.
It's small but tough, has a broadcast quality codec, and it has a great lens. I'm not sure you can do better at that price point.
If you don't want to spend as much, but want similar features, I'd also highly recommend the
Canon XF100.
The 300 has a 3CCD while the 100 has a single CCD chip. The 300 has a much better zoom lens, is slightly better in low light (f/1.6), etc.
For a boom mic I highly recommend the one I use personally: The
Senheisser ME66/K6 combo with K-tech windjammer and pole.
In case you don't like using tripods I suggest testing out a monopod - Manfrotto makes a good and light one. Haven't used it but others say it's great for run and gun.
Hope this helps.
