Final Cut won't recognize my Sony FX7

Hi all. So here's the deal: I have footage on a Sony HDR-FX7 that I need to get onto my Macbook Pro, which doesn't happen to have a Firewire 400 port, only 800. Annoying, but whatever I got the 400-800 adapter and hooked it up, but for the life of me I can't seem to get Final Cut Pro to recognize that it's connected, and thus I can't capture my footage. Does anybody know how to make this work?

What format video did you record?
If you recorded HDV, is the camera set to down convert on output?
What easy setup did you choose in FCP?
Do the output settings on the camera match your settings in FCP?
Your question is quite vague as to what is actually going on if you can give more detail maybe we can help.
There are no "technical solutions" to your "artistic problems".
Don't let technology get in the way of your creativity!
