Editing HDV then outputting to DV
by Mike Doe on Jun 17, 2009 at 9:28:12 am

I shot a project in HDV, did the edit in HDV within FCP, and now am looking at the best options to edit to tape by downconverting to standard DV. Any suggestions welcomed.

Mike- In FCP go to Audio/Video Settings. Change settings to your preferred DV settings. Create a sequence. Copy your HDV timeline. Paste into your DV timeline. Render. Edit to tape.

Thanks Jerry. I tried that. It works fine except for I now have the wrong aspect ratio.

I also tried the following. Edit in HDV. Export QT with current settings. Use Compressor to create a standard DV Pal file. Open a DV Pal sequence in FCP. Import the new QT. I also have the aspect ratio problem this way. I'm sure I'm doing something somewhere along the chain that's ending with my aspect ratio problem. Any advice? Thanks again.

Mike- Go to Audio/Video Settings again. Select the sequence tab. Check the anamorphic box. Refrain from slapping forehead.
