Another fine mess

I work with a producer whom I appreciate for all the business he brings me but is forever getting me into messes. (Which could also be looked at as learning opportunities I guess)
This week he is bringing me footage which I have just found out was shot on a Sony Z1 with no info on frame size or rate. I have rented a Sony A1U which I have been told I will be able to use as a playback deck.
I am planning to use the firewire output to dump the footage to hard drive so that I can edit using Premiere Pro CS3. However, since I have been given no info as to frame rate or size how do I selected a project setting?
This is my first time working with HDV and I had planned to take all of the footage and use either Uncompressed AVI or Quicktime Animation as an intermediate codec before transcoding to create a wide-screen SD DVD release.
I have a 3 GHZ processor, 2 Gig of ram and lots of drive space so I thnk that I have the hardware to do what i want but as you can see I have some real issues to deal with before I can start cutting.
shot with a Z1? Easy
1440 x 1080, 60i.
why bother with an intermediate unless you're:
a--using old Premiere
b--plan on heavy color grading
c--planning on heavy keying

Hi Dan,
You should have no problems capturing the Z1 footage from the A1. I do it all the time. Just make sure i.Link conversion is turned off and VCR mode is set to HDV. Good luck!
