Hello all,
new to the forum. I am shooting a docfilm right now with the canon xl h1 and have had several timecode problems accompanied by huge dropouts. In 3 of the 11 Tapes (Panasonic PQ) that I have shot until now, I have timecode jumps, where the camera loses several frames (up to 2 secs) and then the timecode keeps going on normally. this happens at the beginning of the take but also right in the middle of it.
I have spoken to several technicians about this, have cleaned the heads with a dry cleansing tape and still have this problem. has anyone had this problem and how did you solve it? it is not possible that this happens so often, also the sound is completely gone, together with the frames.
I would be really thankful if any of you could help me.

Try changing tapes. I have a client who has used the H1 for the past two years and is having great success with Sony PHDVM63DM. He started out using Panasonic tape (I don't remember which model) and there were several instances of drop outs. I haven't seen one with the Sony tapes. I've had good results with Sony DVCAM PDVM-40 N in my HVR-V1U. It's aimed at DVCam users, but works well for HDV (60-minutes in HDV or DV mode).
