which monitor for color correction?
by philippe orlando on Aug 13, 2008 at 11:38:19 am

I'm almost done shooting a film with a Canon XH-A1. I'm using Vegas 7 and capturing into the NEO HDV CINEFORM codec.
I like the color correction in Vegas, but I'm starting to have doubt about what I'm looking at, as far as color accuracy, on my 24" wide screen 1920 x1080 Dell.

I have have a few questions:

I have a Sony standard def monitor, 14". It's SD def though, so I assume it's not good to judge color from my NEO HDV Cineform Codec, correct? HDV and by extent the Cineform codec do have a different space than DV, correct?

What about the Lacie monitors? Which one, the 320m 321 324? 526?
Could somebody suggest a LCD monitor? Should I stick to CTRs?

And what about this device called X-Rite Eye-One Display LT?
Could I calibrate my Dell with it? Can I really calibrate my Dell, it's a 2407WFP-HC

Thanks
Phil

What are you going to run the monitor from? Do you have a video card? Your Dell should look pretty good if it's calibrated correctly (unless of course, you're just running it out of your computer and displaying a computer rather than video space image).
