24P or 24A Workflow with a Hard Drive Recorder?
by Ryan Walker on Jun 25, 2008 at 6:17:23 pm

Hey Guys,

Ive been reading a lot on the forums about the workflow when capturing 24p or 24a using Pro Res 422, AIC, or what have you, but does anyone have a work flow for 24P or A if everything is going to be recorded onto an HDR? Will be using Sony V1U, and for argument sake, lets say that I am not synching the HDR and the tape at the same time when recording. Thanks for any and all advice guys.

I believe you should record 24pA for final cut 6.02 or above to remove any pulldown during the capture. you will need a Quad PPC G5 or an Intel unit for this. the 24pA mode resets the Long GOP cadence for each new clip so you must make sure a give a few seconds extra for the camera to come up to speed, give it more pre roll and post roll and you will be fine. Even if you don't use the Pro Rez method you can still record 24pA and use it over firewire as native HDV.

Good Luck
Michael Palmer
