Canon HV30 editing

I use a mac but a friend on a PC bought a Canon HV30 and knows nothing about editing. What is a good basic program for use with SD and HD on a PC?

Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. Cheep, does a great job with HDV and AVCHD, no converting required.
