I still get no data coming in from my HDR-HC3 Sony camera after having followed the advice from the forums, I listed it here. I get a message that VTR is ok but there is no picture. Just black, although I do have control of the camera as it is in VCR mode. What step am I missing? I would greatly appreciate any help.
I have followed the following advice from the forums:
Perhaps you can try resetting the i-link/firewire port to HDV one more time on the camera. In most Sony HDV units you need to control the firewire output yourself, it is NOT an automatic detection deal, and it needs to be reset without the FW cable connected to make the change. So just for kicks turn off the camera and computer and disconnect the firewire cable. Turn on the camera in VTR mode and open the menu, find and enter the rec in/out, find and open the i-link conv, and set this to OFF for HDV. Reconnect the FW cable and reboot the computer, open L&C
Hopefully this is your issue.

Trash your preferences. Connect the camera in VCR mode set to HDV out before you launch the application. Does the application detect the camera at start up? If it doesn't do not proceed any further. Check the connections. Try a different cable.
You're not working DVCPRO HD. That's a Panasonic format. You want HDV 1080i60. use Easy Setup and the correct preset. You might need to trash your preferences again and set your application up properly before you access the capture window.
