Hi Guys
I am looking for some advice on setting up a HD kiosk style looping presentation video.
Which is best Plasma or LCD at around 50inch or larger.
Which format to finish to: WMVHD, AVCHD, M2TS, H264, Blu Ray.
What type playback device would you recommend: Hard Drive based media player or Blu Ray Disc Player.
Anyone set up this sort of project before.
Project shot in HDV with Sony V1U & will be edited in Edius using Canopus HQ codec, footage is mostly Native NZ lanscape shot from helicopters for the Department of Conservation.

Hi Dave,
- LCDs have traditionally had the edge over plasma.
2nd gen screens have shortened the gap, but I still
think LCDs have it. But maybe it's all about the
contrast aspect ratio, nowadays?
- On a 50"+ screen, and with the luxury of a good Blu-Ray
burner, I'd go with the disc. - Unless, you purchase/hire
a content management system (CMS) with your screen, i.e.
you need to control the screen's output/content via
software. The decision is usually dependent on how
current the content needs to be. We've recently asked
for quotes for a large exterior HD screen and CMS for
the side of our new premises but we haven't followed
any up yet. Very expensive (until the ad revenue starts
rolling in).

Dave
I prefer LCDs, still, but at the £1K/$2K level it's
probably even-Stevens, except the LCDs usually have
a better contrast aspect ratio.
Standard def set-top boxes/IPTV etc. tend to look
better on LCDs too. I hated the SD on the last plasma
I had (pictured). Admittedly it was a first-gen 720p
only plasma though.

Thanks Darren & DSE for your valued advice.
How about Sony Bravia range of LCD's for the display device? & does anyone know if there is a list of Blu-Ray players that will playback user authored disks, I believe this is still a gray area as to which ones will & wont playback BD-R -RE or LTH type disks, any workflow tips most welcome.
