HDV glitches on FCP Quicktime Move Export
by Sean Overbeeke on May 13, 2008 at 2:46:54 am

I'm editing a show in HDV 1080i60 that was shot on a Sony Z1U. I'm running into a new problem that I've never seen before, using the exact same settings and camera on another show.

When I export a quicktime move, I'm seeing glitches every 4-5 seconds, that appear as chunky blocks, usually happens right after a cut. I need my quicktime export to work because I use that to go to a bunch of different formats for preview and approval. Anybody running into this problem? Know how to fix it? I don't want to have to use compressor.

Quicktime is version 7.4.5

I'm capturing over fire wire... never had a problem before ... i've edited 3 shows the exact same way for tv... is this a new issue with the latest update?

I didn't think you captured with a capture card and there wasn't a hidden question there, just wanted to know of ALL the hardware involved to paint a complete picture of this issue. I have read where 3rd party plugins and or hardware have contributed to issues from updating Apple software. Also, has there been any new ram added or any other changes to the system?

I have an Intel 3Ghz running all the latest Apple updates, along with an AJA Kona LHe and I don't have your issues. If I did I would remove hardware that was either just installed or hardware and the drivers that I don't need at the moment.

Good Luck

by any chance are you capturing to daisy-chained FV drives, you can certainly get issues if FCP is hunting around several drives on a FW daisy chain looking for footage.

I had a similar problem - Tried to swap out everything in form or another, then finally I moved the project to another hard drive and the problem went away.
I hope this helps.

I work at SFSDF (digital film school) and we have had this problem come up on many of our G5s. We've made hundreds of short films here and never had this problem. My guess is that it's a glitch inside the latest quicktime. I am testing today on several of our G5s but I am pretty sure this happens on both powerpcs and intels. I would love to find someone who knows a workaround!!!
