Stopping problems in FCP

I'm editing some HDV footage on my G4 Dual processor with FCP 5.1.4, but when I press to stop playback, the image "rolls off" a few frames. Why is this happening?

It sounds like your system isn't really keeping pace monitoring the actual time base. Just a guess but you are on the edge of this editable format with your system. HDV is extremely CPU intensive.
