Sony Z7 - NTSC or PAL??
by Richard Jones on Apr 26, 2008 at 12:07:39 pm

I am looking to get a sony HVR-Z7P but the American Z7U is cheaper and being from Australia the Z7P is the Oz version of this product.
The camera can shoot 1080i /1080p in 60i/50i, 30p/25p I am a little confused as to why I have to get the Z7P. The only reason I figure for this is the power supply.. Is this true?
To my knowledge 60i/30p is NTSC and 50i/25p is PAL so can I get the Z7U or do I need the Z7P?
Why do retailers clam one is NTSC and the other PAL?

The Z7 comes in either 50i/PAL or 60i/NTSC. But you can pay for an upgrade to make it do both. See this thread below:

Z7P is PAL Z7U is NTSC. Unlike the Z1s these are two totally different cams in their method of recording. Sony announced that around October there will be a firmware upgrade, at cost, to make Z7Ps switchable to NTSC. For the amount of money you would have to pay, plus GST on import, plus the inconvenience of getting and upgrading a Z7U to PAL you might as well get a Z7P here in Oz and be done with it. Additionally you get your full local warranty. If you buy Stateside you have no local warranty. You should be able to pick one up from Videocraft in Sydney for around 7.5K inc GST, talk to Shane Jones.
