Pixel Aspect Ratio Questions

Hello,
I am capturing HDV in Final Cut Pro 6 off a Sony HDV deck, and I am using the HDV 1080i60 capture preset.
When I bring my clip into the timeline, I see the image as 16:9, and my interview footage looks slightly stretched horizontally. I know that HDV has a pixel aspect ratio of 1 to 1.33, and that it's resolution is 1440 x 1080. But is this how it should look? The interview subjects look like they have wide heads.
My sequence settings are those used for the HDV easy set-up, and the "anamorphic" box is unchecked.
When I unclick FCP's "Correct for Aspect Ratio" setting in my Viewer and Canvas, then the footage looks more like reality, but not 16:9. When I export this sequence, I am back to a 16:9 image with a slight horizontal stretch.
Can anyone please help with choosing the correct settings in Final Cut?

Johanna- Are you seeing the stretched video on your computer monitor or on an external monitor? Sony 1080i HDV is native 16x9. Don't be confused by the 1440. If you digitize in HDV native via firewire into FCP it is flagged as 16x9 and FCP automatically does the proper scaling. Once you've selected an HDV easy setup open a NEW sequence and drop in your HDV native clip. Your clip will look normal in the canvas.

Hi, Thanks so much for writing back.
Actually, we took a ruler to the screen and found that what we are getting is more like 1 to 1.85 or even 1 to 2, a very stretched out image (in my Final Cut Viewer and Canvas windows, as well as when I export a quicktime movie and watch it n my monitor and an external monitor)... But when we uncheck "Correct for Aspect Ratio" - the image becomes 16:9 in the Viewer and Canvas, but does not export that way.
I am not at work today, but I will try and make a NEW sequence after choosing the easy setup. Thanks for your help. I am new to this format and appreicate your time very much!
