Hey, my production is shooting DVCPro HD for most part, but there will be some HDV footage as well. Does is make sense to dub the HDV tapes to DVCPro HD and use them as new masters? We would lose some resolution I think, but it would probably be a lot easier to work with.
Would the dubbing be as simple as HD-SDI from a HVR1500 to an AJ-HD1400, or are there other considerations?

From what a read on the 1400 this should work. This means 2x real time to get where you want to go. I don't have the 1400 deck and you don't need it unless you really want the HDV converted and saved to tape as DVC Pro HD.
You don't really need DVC Pro HD tape, just capture from the Sony 1500 into your HD-SDI capture card as DVC Pro HD. I transcode to DVC Pro HD all the time and I don't need that 1400 deck.

Michael: I read u said u capture in DVCPRO HD all the time. Well I'm new to DVCPRO HD and here is my question for you. I have 20 mini DV tapes recorded in 1080i/29.97, Im using a Canon XL-H1 as a VTR. How can I capture the 1080 footage in DVCPRO HD into Apple Final Cut Studio over firewire from the camera?
