Have downloaded one to view, but FCP doesn't seem to recognize. ??

You need the Apple MPEG 2 Playback Component to play m2t files, which you should have with FCP. If your version isn't current, download the update at:

www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update

Also, you get MPEG Streamclip to play m2t files (free):

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html

on PC, VLC player will play them and, even easier, change the extension to .mpg and use Windows Media Player...

Streamclip comes in Mac and PC versions and is very handy! I converted .m2t files from a Firestore to DVCPROHD for editing in FCP4.5. Some converted clips: www.accelvideo.com/msg6.htm
