Archive 16mm to HD or D-Beta
by Michael Werk on Nov 24, 2006 at 7:30:24 pm

I have been moving my archive from various formats 2", 1", D-2, etc. to D-Beta and now to 10 bit uncompressed files on a hard drive (with backup). I recently came accross some 16mm film which has never been telecined and am wondering if there would be any benefit to the image resolution, detail etc. if I telecined to some HD format rather than d-beta. If so which HD format would be best and would I also be able to downconvert to d-beta or 10bit uncompressed if I needed to. I would like to be able to use FCP to edit and assemble the HD material if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance for any help

Mike,

Our company offers 16mm film telecine solutions. We digitize to either 8 bit or 10 bit uncompressed files and deliver on Lacie external drives. Rougly 2000ft of 16mm film equates to an hour of video (400GB-500GB). Check out our website - www.filmtransfer.com.
