can there be any timecode mechanism difference between FX! and Z1??

Here something unusual that I'm currently experiencing whilst digitising footage with FCP 5.
Two tapes from two different cameras from the same shoot.
Tape One - from my own FX1 - timecode is good and I can log and successfully capture large chunks of footage
Tape Two - from a friend's Z1 - timecode looks fine, but after logging large chucks of footage FCP recognises timecode breaks and aborts any capturing
I have tried everything with tape two but the only way I can digitise is by telling FCP to "start a new clip on any timecode break" - it will do this but I loose about 7 secnds between each clip. I have done plenty of searching and research for an answer but can't work this out. I know about Scene Detect and that is all off, and I know that in user preferences you need to change the timecode break option so it ignores them.
How can two tapes be so different and cause this problem?
Is there a difference in the way the FX1 and Z1 lays timecode down?

The Z1 has a feature call quick record, if this feature is activated, there will be timecode problem at stop and start recording, this is a useless feature that your friend should turn it off. The manual said the at stop and start point will not be smooth but it should said timecode problem if you turn it on.

i don't think this is the only problem. i shot for 3 weeks in summer with a Z1 with the quick record OFF, yet still my clips are littered with timecode breaks which don't seem to exist!! it drives me NUTS!!! the only way i've had any luck is my simply trying to capture certain clips over and over and over until it captures successfully. sometimes it works 2nd time round, and sometimes it takes 20 times. unfortunately with some clips it took so many goes that now the tape is damaged in those places and now there is a genuine timecode break!!!

The answer is that you should have sent the camera to Sony for warranty or service as soon as you discovered this problem. This is NOT normal behavior for a Z1U or any other camera for that matter.
If the camera is still under warranty, don't waste another minute, send it in for service.
