HDV Editing Question

Hey guys I'm editing this spot using HDV footage (Upper field), and got some HDCam (No fileds), how do i need to edit this ... what should my sequesnce setting be?, how do i render my graphics out of AE in 4:3 mode or in 1080 format?
BTW: using FCP and AE 6.5p, photoshop the works....
I started playing around with it, but I'm getting some really funcky strobbing on some parts,, how do i edit the spot together, when i got diferent field dominance,
can someone help me pleeeeaaaasssseeee ... going out of my mind!
p.s. i don't understand HD format, can someone explain diferences (720p or 1080i, 1080p) or point me to a book or site that better explains everything about these formats, Thanks sooooo much!
