I'm making an action sports film this winter using the Sony HDR-FX1 PAL. I've been experimenting with different ways of converting my interlaced footage to 50p for smooth slow motion. The best method I've come across so far is using AVI Synth in Virtual Dub to split the fields into frames. This yields great results, but I need to know if anyone knows of alternative methods of doing this? Also what resolution am I getting out of my 50p footage? I assume I'm getting SD resolution...

The easiest and fastes way:
In AfterEffects open a new composition. In Properties choose 50 fps instead 25. Import your footage and render it at 25p.Ready.
If you want to go higher than 200%, twixtor is the way to go...

I you have access to Apple's Compressor 2 you might want to give it a try. I have heard great things about it and it can use motion vectors for it's calculations. One warning though, it is supposed to be very slow at the best settings.
