Vegas or Vegas Movie Studio. Any users with Sony 1080i HDV

Hello All
I have just purchased PAL HDR-HC1 and hope to use with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. As I am not a pro user I do not fancy the expense of the pro systems such as Liquid Edition 6 or Edius NX etc. I hope to use a P4 3.0 GHz with 1GB RAM so FCP is out also. Is this enough horsepower for Vegas? Any advice or comments on Vegas or suggested alternative would be appreciated.

I doubt that Vegas Movie Studio supports HDV editing. Vegas 6b is what most people are using very successfully on fairly ordinary systems. A 3ghz P4 will be fine.

Hi Malcolm
I would suggest you try and opt for Vegas 6 + DVD if your budget allows it. What I would hate to see happen is someone like yourself fire away on all cylinders and as soon as you gain some experience with camera and software, you want to do more - and I would surmise this was the path most of us followed with software at one point in our lives. Then Vegas Movie Studio would become a hindrance or limitation in what you want to achieve.
Vegas is probably the most forgiving packages around today which allows one to edit HDV on a lesser spec machine. With add-ons like Gearshift which specifically caters for users with a lower spec machine, your editing frame rates jump in leaps and bounds.
Heck, but then again I'm an ardent user and have been since Vegas 3 so yes, biased I am - but then again, its software like this which brings HDV to the masses!
Jeez, I just wish Sony would pay me to say these things - lol

Hello All
Thank you for your thoughts. I take your point Clock but the full suite is 5 times the price which is a bit much having just paid for the camera and needing to spend a bit on my PC as well. I notice though that I will qualify for Upgrade pricing if I buy the Movie Studio suite and decide to upgrade later so all will not be lost. Do you have any thoughts on DVD Architect as an authoring program? I have used DVD Workshop extensively. Have you used this or any other program to compare with?
Any other comments still welcome.

Malcolm - point taken. As long as the path exists for you, I'm happy.
DVD architect - its one of the beauties of having it. Your edit workflow allows you to set points in your edit which are then imported into DVDA and seen automatically - one the beauties of an integrated package. The disadvantage of NOT having it is that the if you don't have DVD Architect, you don't have the mpeg2 encoder for rendering for dvd output. DVD Architect comes with the mpeg2 encoder and Vegas 6 as a standalone doesn't.
Quite frankly, I wouldn't be without it - and I have other packages too!
