Is the JVC GY-HD100U "ProHDV" compatible with FCP5?

Just returned from NAB and was very impressed with the picture quality of the JVC GY-HD100U, but got a call at the airport from someone at the show who said that the JVC GY-HD100 using their "PROHDV" that has a different bit rate than the SONY HDV would not be compatible with with Final Cut Pro 5 and that you would have to use the Luminere plug in to get it into FCP? Has anyone heard this? Please say it isn't true....

I'm not convinced that is true. It IS true that Fredric was demoing Lumiere in the JVC booth area as JVC's solution to get HD100 footage worked with in FCP, but there is a twist:
I found out from him (Frederic) directly (see my other NAB report post) that the HD100 does NOT write 24P to tape in discreet frames, it pads to 24 frames it captures from the CCD into a 60fps stream, then writes to tape. The 60fps .m2t was watchable in VLC, and looked smooth.
So the answer SEEMS to be, that if FCP5 is compatible with 720p60 HDV, then you'll be able to work directly with HD100 footage, but it will have pulldown added. You'd have to use Lumiere currently to remove that pulldown, and unfortunately, recompress.
Frederic is the only Apple person I know of to get his hands on HD100 footage, and when I told him of how well FCP5 was handling HDV in the timeline, he mentioned to me that he was very much trying to get over to the next building to see FCP5 and find out if it would work with 720p60. Hopefully soon he will have answers...

Nate are saying what i think your saying. That in the VLC player the.m2t files were 720P 60fps.
So that means if one upconverts HD100U footage to 1080I 60 field video, you will have the live video feel from the JVC.
So footage recorded to tape is 60fps, then we get a 24fps extraction of that to get 24P. But if we want 60fps 720P we can use that as for slowmotion work or etc. Correct.

No, in fact I was trying to say the exact opposite.
There are 24 unique frames inside a 60fps stream. The original 24 frames are padded with duplicates. This would be called pulldown in this case, but instead of working with fields as in 30i video, the stream is working in full frames.
There are not 60 unique images captured from the CCD, and then written to tape, ala Varicam. Slow motion dreams are dashed.
