Hi Everyone,

So my boss said he heard someone saying that the colors and the way that smoke treats images results in 10 - 15 % better images, how can i dispute that in the most "professional" manner, without just getting angry ? : )

Your answers mean a lot to me !

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl that says Smoke processes everything in 4:4:4 and 12/16bfp. Smoke's processing is good, and so are the tools. But 10%-15% as general of a statement seems silly.

[Brian Mulligan] "But 10%-15% as general of a statement seems silly."

Agreed. I tried to say this in another post, but not nearly as succinctly as you have. (it was cross-posted in the AE forum [link]).

One of the fundamental principles of both Autodesk Smoke and Adobe After Effects is giving the artist maximum control over the image by allowing the artist to make both technical and creative decisions. These applications neither automatically enhance nor degrade source footage, so the quality is what you make it.

It's worth understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each application's design philosophy and toolset so you can evaluate which tool is right for the job -- but image processing quality is a wash. It's math, not magic.

"10-15% Better". Just what does that mean? How does one quantify "better"?
