Importing Avid projects to Smoke
by Vitor Martins on Jun 5, 2008 at 4:20:33 pm

Can anyone help me on importing avid projects to smoke (file based...)?
I´ve tried with AAF import and omf import without sucess.
Furthermore, I've tried to open MXF files generated in Avid and it gives me an error message stating."Movie: cannot open movie xxxx.xxxxx.xxxx.mxf", where "XXX.XXX.XXX" is the name of the file.
any ideas?

If you are a registered smoke user I suggest you go to Autodesk M & E and join their advanced systems web forum. The knowledge base among users there is much more helpful because most smoke artists are users of the forums. Your issues can be found in their archives.

AAF support isn`t really greatly developed yet.

The best way to Avid => Smoke is EDL ... OR, if that works:

Avid => AAF => FCP => XML (by Managing Media if you have to bring the files with the project)

Then importing XML to Smoke works much more than AAF.

I got some issues with Fields or some crashes while importing XML to smoke, but most of the time, that works fine.
