Help! I need an XP capable version of Velocity3d. I have been using Velocity3d ver. 7.6 for years. My motherboard died and I have to rebuild a system. I don't want to go backwards to NT. I have contacted Leitch and they don't have an answer as to how I can get a copy of ver.8.2. Was there a cost for the upgrade to 8.2? I didn't pay much attention to the upgrade since I had just recently started using 7.6 and was happy with it. I did try to reinstall Reality/Velocity on the XP system, but it did not recognize the hardware (would only run in demo mode, and yes I did install the 7.6 key) Any suggestions?

Hmmm...when I bought a system wth only 7.6 software off Ebay a couple years back, I called Leitch about upgrading, since we have several other systems running 8.2. They told me since it's a dead product... I could just install the 8.2 software from the website and they'd send me a registration key to unlock it at no charge.

Call and ask them if they'll do that for you. But there was a charge to upgrade from 7.6 to 8.2. I think it was $499 at the time, but again...they certainly shouldn't charge you that much for now.

They even gave users version 10 for free back last December...so I doubt they'd object to you installing 8.2 and asking for an unlock key.

Thank you for the response. I did get a link from Harris to a software download of 8.2. I made an auto-run cd from it, started to install it and discovered that everything BUT the Reality/Velocity software was on the disc. I emailed Harris and told them, but got no response. Do you have the link to where you downloaded your software from? I too have been a loyal customer going all the way back to 95 with Video Action, then DPS Editbay, then Velocity3d 7.5 Then 7.6. I wish they would help me out now that I really need assistance. They are acting very suspicious about the whole thing.

No..no link. Their customer support is terrible. I even had a long (45 minute) phone converstation with one of their broadcast VPs about 18 months ago about it. He was very smart and very apologetic...but a lot of their customer support issues are related to all the merging that's gone on between them, Leitch, Inscriber and other companies. Their product matrix seems to change every 3 months and their focus seems to change nearly as often in terms of what solutions they're actually selling clients.

I'd just keep after them. Like I said, they had no problems sending me a software key for version 8.2. But I already had mutliple copies of the software for installation. Are the updates on the website not full installs of the 8.2 software? I'm curious why you couldn't download the most recent 8.2 version (8.2.39 I think) along with the latest drivers.

Sorry I'm not more help, but I'd just keep emailing them and calling.

Here's a link to the software on their website. You have to create a user name and password, but everything they've released since about 1999 is on there.

I thought that too, however I can't find the 7.6 to 8.0 upgrade. Leitch sent me a link to their FTP site for a download. I thought that some of the software was missing from the download, but here is whats happening.

I downloaded the .iso file and made a cd
I ran the autorun
I attempted to install the entire disc but
I get an error stating

COMPONENT TRANSFER ERROR
file Group: commonSystem32
Error: The filename, directory name or volume label is incorrect

Then the install quits

Do I have to have all the previous versions of Reality/Velocity installed and up to date to install the 8.0 software or is something else going on

Hmmm..not sure. I've never downloaded .iso files. I've always just downloaded the files from their website. I could've sworn that literally every software update was listed, but you may be correct in that moving from 7.6 to 8.x is a full upgrade, which would not be on the update list.

As for the install...try these couple of things:

1. Find the .exe file instead of using the autorun and install it from that.

2. Move all the install files onto your hard drive into a temporaray directory somewhere. Then try the install from your hard drive.

3. Move all the Install Shield files to your desktop then try the install. You'll find them in a couple places: C:\Program Files\Install Shield and C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data (substitute the name you use for logging on where I put "user name"). You can also just do a search for Install Shield, then go move all the files. If the install works...move them back to their original locations. Be sure to note what the original location was!!

Beyond those tricks...I'd retry the download. It might have corrupt files in it...or try re-burning the .iso with different burning software, since the .iso spec isn't real tight and different programs might read files differently.

Hope that helps.

Did you ever get anywhere on this. I too have 7.6 and want to update to 8.2 so I can transfer all my stuff to a new computer.

Did you try contacting Harris directly? They actually offerred to send me a copy of version 8.2 for free when I was considering buying a VelocityQ system off of Ebay that had only version 7.6 software and the seller didn't have the unlock key.

Give them a call and beg! It worked for me. I can't believe they'd charge you considering Version 10 is free (albeit has some bugs that make it hard to use on a daily basis) But Harris still swears a fix for V10 is coming out in the next 1-3 months for all the small bugs.

So I can't beleive they'd charge for an upgrade from 7.6 to 8.2 for what's a dead product.
