Hi,

I created a SD DVD with DVD Studio Pro. I set an intro video as first play with a menu afterwards. It works fine on DVDs and Macs but on Windows I am having trouble finding a suitable DVD software that plays it correctly. Power DVD works great but unfortunately it isn't free. I am trying to find a good free alternative to give to clients that wish to use the DVD on a PC. I have tried VLC but it completely skips the intro video. On Windows Media Player/Center it treats all of the menu buttons as button 1. Anyway please let me know if you can recommend any good (preferably free) software for windows playback.

Thank you,
-Kevin

well, i'm a HUGE fan of VLC.
However:
DVD specs order to begin with a video, not a still menu.
But VLC looks at the first still menu.
So, make a 'play DVD' menu item and put it in as first menu, linking the button to your intro.
Other menus to your liking.
In this case, if someone plays it with VLC, they are just one click away from your normal intro.

Thanks for responding. I tried your method but no luck. I added a menu to the beginning as first play and it still goes straight to the 3rd menu. My only guess now is that the 3rd menu was the initial menu one place holder and so maybe VLC thinks it is still first? I will try to rearrange the menus but any further help is appreciated.

Thank you,
-Kevin

For those who might like to know I did rearrange the menus and it now works. VLC goes to the original first menu you place in DVD Studio Pro so I had to take that menu placeholder and switch it as the beginning. My only problem now is that it takes a really long time to load menus (like 25 seconds). I am not sure if it is my large project, my laptop or VLC but I will be testing it on other PCs.

Thanks again!
-Kevin
