 | dual layer dvd burned but won't playback
by Jennifer Ray on Jun 29, 2012 at 10:40:13 pm |
hey there
I just burned a dual layer DVD in DVD Studio Pro (its an HD wedding - all settings done as directed)
It will not play back in the DVD player on my iMac (OS Lion)
I tried to playback on my older machine running Tiger and all works just fine. The Lion machine says it doesn't support the disc?
I also attempted a playback on my xbox 360 and I get a "multi media disc" setting. I can't 'play' the disc.
Any thoughts??
Not had this issues in the past.
Thanks,
enero

As directed by who? Less you give us info on your workflow we would just be guessing.

sorry - as directed by kenstone.net - (method I have used on a pervious run)
final cut studio to compressor with HD DVD setting.
Imported into DVD Studio Pro with HD settings in prefs etc...
it is also a memorex DVD+RDL which I thought I had used in the past but it may have been verbatim ...
i wonder if there is a setting with the DVD player on the machine with Lion installed that needs it default settings changed?
xbox perhaps can't handle 'homemade' dvd in that setting?
sorry for the ramble - hope the helps?
thanks,
e

Hd DVD is a dead format. Maybe lion drop support for it. No idea about Xbox

There's your error, you have made a HD DVD, the dead format that will play on the Mac but not on
a DVD player, ALL DVDs are SD.

Your previous success was probably that you had set DVDSP's prefs to SD before starting authoring.

thanks everybody for their help.
what are your suggestions then to get an HD quality wedding to work/look HD at SD DVD settings?
And, when did the HD DVD setting die?
how does one now go from exporting to compressor from final cut pro?
what settings do you suggest?
:)

AFAIK The HD DVD setting still technically works fine, just that there are no players for the format "HD DVD" (for reference, XBOX did come out with an external player that attaches to the XBOX for playing HD DVD's and your disc should work in it if you bought one. Playstation 3 came with built in Blu-ray).
Blu-ray won the battle and HD DVD is dead. Unfortunately, DVD SP does not support Blu-ray and other authoring options are limited. You will NOT be able to get HD quality video with SD DVD settings, research Blu-ray a bit and come back with any questions that you will inevitably have. I reccomend checking out Matrox MAX if you end up creating Blu-ray's often, without it the encode times are dreadful.
