 | DVDSP4 Keeps Crashing When I try and BUILD...Same as Mike Brown on Earlier Thread...

Hi
I am having the same issues as Mike Brown....DVDSP4 keeps crashing when I try and BUILD & Format.
I've emptied the PREF and all that and it still crashes.
As an event, I have 40 chapter markers.
I export as QT Movie
Go to Compressor
Open DVDSP4 and use CITY COVER (Times Square)
I build everything and then send off to IMAGE BURN and it crashes always at around 39%
I worked backwards by creating a copy of the 2 hr into a 6 min segment and each time took something away from the TIMELINE….and did everything out again to build in DVDSP and it crashed again and again.
I called APPLE…spoke to someone in DVDSP support which no longer exists, but DAVE was nice enough to suggest, which was my next route, to getting rid of PLIST corruption.
So I went to LIBRARY - and emptied everything related to DVDSP found in CACHE - PREFERENCES - APPLICATION SUPPORT - SAVED APPLICATION STATE
He said that should clear up the issue.
Tried it again and it crashed.
It plays in FCP…works in QT….goes through COMPRESSOR, builds in DVDSP, PLAYS in DVDSP….but will not BUILD an IMAGE.
I'm out of ideas. I rebuilt another dvd project and it did fine….I asked everything saved in that DVDSP project to IMAGE BUILD and it did to success.
How do I get in contact with Mike Brown as he went through this issue to success ?

Sometimes projects get corrupt and you need to start a new one. Glad you got it working

I've rebuilt it with only a 6 minute version and it still crashes...so I've done that and nothing...any other ideas will be greatly appreciated...

I thought you said you did another project and it worked fine? Was this a title with different video?
Could be your assets. re encode your video and try again

Hi
The project that I tried and went through was another project that was already built. I sent it out through BUILD and FORMAT to see if there was any corruption in DVDSP. It was a different template and went all the way through cleanly.
Ill try and take THAT template and take out the video and replace it with the video in questions and see if it survives.
I was also told from the next thread to try and BUILD with not FORMAT. I'll see what happens...
THANK YOU
Dick

Also, did you try just clicking on Build (not format)? I wasn't sure from your post.

Hi Kylee
I've never done it that way.....without formatting. What does it give you ? Will I get the DVD template ready to burn to a disk ?
Someone else said to burn from DVDSP. I've never thought of that, but don't I have to BUILD or BUILT & FORMAT before ?
Don't I have to go through DISK UTILITIES to burn the disk ?
These are all great options....I'll try them all....but never having done them, so we'll see if I screw it up....
Thanks Kylee

You really should read the manual to get the workflow correct.

Why are you not burning directly out of DVDSP?

Hi Kylee
I just tried to BUILD and not BUILD & FORMAT and it crashed in the same place about 29% of the way in. I have no idea what the report is saying. If I could or if someone could, we could isolate what is causing the problem.
ANY MORE IDEAS OUT THERE?????????

Hi Alex and Kylee
I just tried to BURN from DVDSP once the project was built and it CRASHED in the same place at 29%. I am running out of suggestions.....and ideas....HERE is the REPORT on what is FAILED. If anyone knows how to read this, maybe I can find out what is corrupted.
Thanks

Hi Anyone and Everyone.....I opened up an existing project that would BUILD and FORMAT correctly.
I deleted the video assets and imported the troubled project. I then told it to B & F and as it got to 100% MUXING the video, it failed.
I then told it to just BUILD....same thing failure at the 100% while mixing the video.
Any ideas anyone ?

In all this, are you using the same asset? Have tried re encoding a new piece?
You need to look in tbe build log in DVDSP and tell at what point it crashes

Yea, try re-encoding the asset if you haven't. It sounds like an issue with the media you're using.
You can also try a new project if you haven't already (just a simple one to see if it works OK to create a new project). Your current project may just be corrupt for some reason. Might have to rebuild it. I've never actually had that happen, though.
And FYI for future projects, you should always choose Build in DVDSP when you're ready to produce your DVD. After the build, choose Format. Always separate. And never use Burn.

Thanks Kylee......someone suggested that I change my SEQUENCE EXPORT codec to 8 bit uncompressed.
From there, I loaded it into DVDSP, built the template and sent it out to IMAGE BUILD & FORMAT.....and it did so cleanly, successfully.
I am now burning a dvd to see if it goes all the way.
Kylee, I will try your suggestion of BUILD FIRST, then do FORMAT.
When it is time to BURN, I use Disk Utility.
Thank you everyone for your help....I was lost on a FIRST TIME blow up on DVDSP4. I guess I have been very lucky up till now.
I'll POST one last time when I do it for a second time with success......hopefully, this thread will act as a road map for anyone else having similar issues.

FYI, Build = creation of the DVD files (the disk image), Format = burning the DVD files (disk image) onto a DVD. It's just called something different.
I'm not sure if you're using Disk Utility to do the burn/format at this point because of the issues, or if that was originally part of your workflow, but it's normally not necessary unless you have a really specific reason for it.

hmmmm...i was having the same crash problem, so tried a "build" (only) first, then "format" (to disc) and no crashing...but i've NEVER done it that way before. Always done "build/format" usually with no problems...
side note here: i'm just doing my first "PLAY ALL" option with stories, and putting all 4 video clips into one track has caused them to be slightly out of sync upon playing the DVD. any ideas?
thanks for helping out a bonehead!
