 | Creating a menu for a series of audio files that you can play, pause and stop with buttons

Hi guys! Long time lurker here but I finally needed to ask my own question.
First of all, I need to know if it's possible to make a DVD menu where you can play, pause, stop, and skip forward and back through a series of audio files (or audio-only podcasts in my case). I don't want the menu itself to change at all, only the pause/play button icon to signify whether the podcast is playing or not. I swear I have seen this done on a menu before but I can't remember any specific examples unfortunately.
Secondly, how?
Cheers :P

I'm not entirely sure, but I would thing you would need multiple sub-menus to signify the play-pause feature. Such as if the end-user hits play, you indicate that it's playing, but when the end-user hits pause, it switches to a sub-menu that is exactly like the play menu, but the only difference would be it says pause.
But this sounds like something you would build more with Flash.

Damn. Multiple sub-menus is beginning to sound a little too complex to build (or at least more effort that it seems to be worth). If I don't have the icon change, is it still possible to play an audio file without leaving the menu?

I don't really think there is, unless someone else might know. Are you just looking to play audio files on a DVD and not have it switch to an actual video? My only thought would be to make sub-menus that have the selected audio track set. So for example, you button 2 and it will take you to a sub-menu that looks exactly same, but the audio track starts playing. Then so on and so forth. Again, Flash or Director can do something like that for a data disc, but not necessarily for what your are looking for without making multiple sub-menus.

No....DVD is ancient technology so it's limited on what it can do

DVD is not ancient technology as it still being used very frequently. Interactivity has just transformed by using other pieces of software, such as Flash would be able to do this project perfectly.

Not ancient in that its obsolete. Ancient in that it was conceived in the 80s and that the spec is very specific and defined.....unlike Flash
