I'm new to this, and am probably making a rookie mistake, but I didn't see anything already addressing this issue in the forums, so here I am.

I'm trying to master a DVD containing four short videos made entirely using motion graphics. The source files I have are 1920X1080 Linear PCM H.264 QuickTime files. I converted them using Compressor "DVD: Best Quality" MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass conversion. and then imported the files to DVD Studio Pro set up the DVD, and burned it.

The results look quite poor. I realize that going from an HD source file down to DVD will never look as good, but the edges of the graphics are very jagged when viewed on monitors. On standard TVs the results are predictably better but still worse than I expected. In addition, I'm getting a subtle green border around the entire frame when viewed on a computer monitor. What am I doing wrong?

The original videos were produced for me by a contractor, so I can't go back and re-export them from Final Cut. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In Compressor, do you have Frame Controls enabled? Any other adjustments?

You should never use h264 as an intermediate codec. Export the video out as uncompressed or ProRes.

Make sure you keep it progressive.

Use cbr instead of vbr.

Do the down convert first and then the mv2. Sometimes you get a better result.

Thanks, I'm not sure if I can get the files re-exported as I don't have the final cut timelines. But I'll try down converting first. If I convert to ProRes from h.264 I imagine that won't help things? Thanks for the suggestions in any case.
