Hi all,

i've got a problem with my subtitles in a DVD which i'm creating in DVD Studio Pro. First i tried to create my Subtitles directly in DVDSP, which is a bad idea, the quality of the subs is really bad.
Then i tried with belle nuit, created TIFF-DVD files, exported an STL Grafic file, but the quality is still poor. I still have jagged / pixelated edges, no clean Subtitles for my DVD.
I also tried the Demo Version of Annotation Edit, same bad result, and inverted alpha problems.
Here my Belle Nuit Settings :

Font : Arial Narrow (i'v tried several fonts, but no one got me a good result)
Size : 30
Border : 100% Width : 2

I've tried to export alson a normal PAL and not PAL DVD, it's worst.
Also tried to export Only TIFF or BMP, even PICT, nothing's working fine ...

If anybody knows what i'm doing wrong ....

Thanks

First you can export STL text file without the graphics, and let DVD SP take care of the rest.

Your second option is to apply Chris Linke Photoshop filter to the TIFF files you have exported. The plug-in is made just for this sort of jobs.
The link to downloading the Photoshop plug-in is in my signature called "Anti-aliasing for Highlights"

Hi,

thanks for your answer. I tried to install the photoshop plugin, but i don't see it in my filters / effects. I tried both on a Mac and on a PC (with the DLL file installed), it's not working.
I got CS4 and CS 5.1, same result :(

I even rebooted but nothing's showing up ...
Maybe it just works on CS3?

Nope, it works under CS2 just fine.

However, i suspect you have wrong mapping.

How does the Belle-Nuit Tiff look?
(I know the developer, he's a nice guy that normally does a good job, i can't imagine he's got this wrong!)

If it has 4 colors, (or greyscales), it's as good as it gets
(one color bg, one color text, one color outline, one color anti-alias)

In DVD SP, map the colors.
And yes, you only have ONE color for anti-alias. That is (imho) between the text and outline (where the highest contrast is)

If you want really HQ titles, render them into your video prior to encoding (but you can't turn them off anymore..)

You can also download Subbits from my site. In the manual is a big part dedicated to this... The free demo will do just fine to see how the subs 'should'look.

hth,

Bouke
