DVD SP 4 won't work in Snow Leopard - Recommended alternative?

So FCS2 won't work after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
Only FCP6 works but I need some of the others too. (DVDSP mainly)

There is a fix for the problem, found here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3155576
However, once the problem is fixed, FCPX won't open so I have reversed the fix and now i'm looking at an alternative for DVDSP because I don't want to go back to editing in FCP6.

I've heard of Toast, but is there any other alternative? iDVD works for me sometimes but for many projects it's too basic.
Ideally something not too expensive or free. I'm not into pirated software and my budget is low.

I'm using 4.2.1 - I'm on the most recent version but can't find any info online or any updates from apple.

Did you install any ProKit updates to get it to work?
Or is it running on a clean install of Snow Leopard rather than an update from a previous version?

My Superdrive is f***ed, i think dust or something. which is why I'm trying to fix my current install rather than reinstall. Funny thing is it writes disks without a problem. :/
