Hi,
I work for mid-level ad agency and most of my work is 30 second spots. Sometimes 5 minute pieces, really short length stuff. We just purchased the CanonXL-H1a, which I love coming from my XL2. I'm going to start shooting in HDV, and transcoding to ProRes during capture. My question is this, when it comes to burning at the absolute highest quality, what are the method and settings recommedations. Should I go straight out of FCP current settings to DVDSP, or should I go through Compressor? I want to display it on an HDTV via a standard DVD player. Could someone help with the best steps (settings, bit rate etc.) to do this?

Send to Compressor, use the least compressed preset for DVD. For example if it's 60 minutes or less, use the 60 minute high quality MPEG-2 preset and so on... Another option is directly connecting a computer to the monitor and just play out ProRes. That keeps you in HD and looks way better than any DVD.
