Apect Ratio Problem
by Mario Golfari on Aug 28, 2009 at 3:35:53 pm

A client has asked me to use 720x480 (3:2 Aspect ratio) for a proyect. Is there a setting in Studio Pro to place black bars so that the image is not cut off on the sides in a 4:3 tv? We are in South America and almost everybody still only has a 4:3 tv.

I've already changed the aspect to 4:3 in Final cut (it automatically places black bars but for some reason the MPEG 2 render came out badly pixelated-?!)

Select a track in the Outline panel
Go to the General tab of the Inspector
Set the Display Mode pulldown to 16:9 Letterbox.

This setting will automatically letterbox your video on television sets which display 4:3, and fill as much of the screen as possible on wider displays. The DVD player or DVD playing software takes care of this on playback.

16:9 Letterbox is a good setting to use consistently, unless you always use assets which are 4:3.
