Photoshop layers in menu and buttons
by Tim Silva on Jun 23, 2009 at 7:11:43 pm

I did a search on this topic and found questions going all the way back to 2004, so this has been problem for a LONG time. My Photoshop layers aren't showing up in DVDSP 4. I have a button selected and there are no layers listed in the Layered Button inspector. The PS layers have been flattened, the doc is 8 bit RGB, I've tried renaming the layers to include "_selected"," _activated", etc.

What's the trick? Any help appreciated.

Tim

Are you using a Layered Menu in DVDSP and not a standard Menu?

Yes, using a layered menu.

You need to do some problem solving.

Do you have an old project with layered menus. If yes, bring in this file and see if it works in that project. Also take the layered file that is in the old project and try it in the new project. Is anything working.

This will get you in the direction of DVDSP issue, that project issue or that file issue.

Double check all the setting in PS also.

Never found the problem. Checked all the PS settings, everything I could think of. Finally created a new test document with just a couple of text layers - boom, layers show up in DVDSP. So I copied the layers from the other file into the new doc and used that. Very frustrating only because I haven't discovered the real problem. At least I found a work-around that allowed me to meet my deadline.

Thanks for your suggestions.

It's a known bug that occurs 'sometimes' with 'some' versions of Photoshop.
I've spend a couple of days trying to figure it out but failed.

If you're bitten by this, most reliable way to work around is to save two files, one bg and one mask file. Yes, it's a pain, but at least you can continue working.
