LONGGGGG Compressor Encode (over 100 hours)

Using Compressor(3.0.5), I've made an MPEG2 (720x480) file from a 1920x1080 Pro Res422, self contained, QuickTiime file. The results were lackluster. A lot of aliasing in the downconverted file. So, I upped the detail and anti-aliasing, found under the frame controls. The good news was the SD MPEG2 file looked great. The bad news is that it took 70 hours to encode a 35 minute HD file. I let it go all 72 hours(over a long weekend), because I was curious about the results. And the results were very good.
Now I have a 39 minute HD(1920x1080 @ 29.97) self contained, Quicktime file. Compressor wants over 100 hours to encode, to make an SD MPEG2 (anamorphic) file so I can burn a decent quality DVD in DVDSP4.
Has anybody found a reasonable setting in Compressor to make an MPEG2 from an HD file, without it looking like crap, and without it taking nearly a full work week? I wouldn't mind 24 hours if it were going to look really good, but 100 hours. Ouch, Man!

Also I would highly recommend down converting the clip to standard definition *before* encoding to MPEG-2. This should look fine and you won't need to use the frame controls in Compressor- which yes will take the rest of your life to finish rendering.

Just tried a test by exporting a quicktime conversion (downconverted) directly from the timeline, then feeding that into compressor, and the results look much, much better, with a very quick encode.
