Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me with some questions on authoring a dvd with both HD and SD content! I would like my end user to have the capability to choose between viewing HD or SD content because upscaling and downscaling issues with cropping. I ultimately would like to know if there is a way to navigate through menu's to play HD or SD content that would display within the 4:3 format when selecting the SD play option and selecting the 16:9 play option. I am creating a "first start" menu that they can select HD or SD. Once they choose, navigation will direct them to content that will not be upscaled or cropped on a High Def 1080p (or 1080i) tv and vise versa on a standard NTSC format tv.

Thanks Michael,
Though I am confused with your response because I put HD content on regular 12 cm dvd's all the time. I export using compressor with the HD DVD setting and go into DVD studio pro and author my dvd's.
Maybe I wasn't clear with my question. I guess the biggest problem is the project setting in DVD Studio pro only allows one format for the whole dvd, and that you can't set individual format settings for tracks. This is where my question really has a big hiccup.
Thanks again. and let me know if you have any more feeedback.

HD DVD and SD DVD are 2 separate formats. No way to nav through menus to choose. Also HD DVD is a dead format and will be eliminated from DVDSP on the next FCP release.

Standard DVDs, can only have 720x480 (NTSCland) m2v files on them, it doesn't matter what you start off with, that is all the is going on them. No way around them.
DVDSP allows you to make HD DVDs and burn them on regular DVD-Rs BUT they can only be played back on the fastest G5s or Intel Macs (plus the now defunct HD DVD players). These will not play on any DVD settop box, I don't think they will play in PCs either.
So if you want HD content you have to author BluRay disc, which can have both HD and SD material on them (you would NEVER put both formats of the same material on them, wouldn't make any sense to do that). These disc will only play in a BluRay settop player or a PC with a BluRay drive and these drives only work with HDTVs.
As Noah said you can put H264 HD movies on a DVD-R but it will be for computer playback only and not accessible through the DVD software.
