The ability of any given computer to run Vista, and sporting a DVD drive does not guarantee, it will be able to play DVD-Video. For this the computer needs to have MPEG2/AC3 decoding software usually referred to as DVD player. Vista does not include codecs for DVD playback and cannot play them by itself.
