Internal muxer error
by Riske de Vries on Oct 2, 2008 at 9:44:56 am

Hi,

I am trying to build a dvd in dvdsp, but I get the "internal muxer error".
Elsewhere on this forum I read that it might have something to do with the program trying to mix the audio and video. Maybe this is the case, because this is a project with no audio. I rendered the video files in compressor to MPEG-2's, but without audio.
Can it be that dvdsp has a problem with that? And if so, how can I fix it?
thanx in advance for any help!

Riske

From the manual -
Required Audio Formats for SD Projects
To ensure that a DVD will play on all SD-based DVD players, there is a DVD specification
requirement that at least one stream of audio for each element be in a specific format.
• For NTSC DVDs, at least one of the audio streams must be either PCM or AC-3.

Why not make an ac3 stream of silent audio and put that on the track.

Thanx! I will try that, it sounds like a good solution...

Ok, tried that... doesn't work. I tried several differtent audio types, aiff/pcm and aac but I still get the internal muxer error. My project is PAL by the way, not NTSC. I use the SD settings.
Ideas anyone?

If it helps: here's the log.

Create new project and import video/audio assets that you have used in Track1. Make a build with no menus and see if DVD SP completes it. If it fails, you will have to re-encode your video. If built successfully, you will have to recreate the project from scratch.

I did that now. Made a new project, with just the one track, and tried to build track 1. It failed. But the track consists of 15 separate movie files that I combined in the one track.
So I tried (to find out which was the bad one) to build the track with just one movie file and built that. One by one, I tried all the 15 files, and they all built perfectly. So the files seem to be fine!
It's just when I put them in a track together, I get the error message.

(more info: I want to make a dvd with 15 clips that you can select separately, but also with a 'play all' button and thats what track 1 with 15 clips is for.)

I suspected that. The solution is to export a combined MPEG2 stream from the track. Select your track in Graphical View. File->Export MPEG file.

Import the resulting file back into the project and put it in the track instead of assembled individual files.

I would combine the files using external application such as MPEGAppend, but though inexpensive it is still not free.

this didn't work either :(
I exported the video to one 15 minute mpg track and exported the audio again from FCP to a 15 minute audio track and put all this in track one.
Maybe I should try converting the files again with compressor? The files don't seem to be the problem but you never know? Or do you have any other suggestions?
thanx,
Riske

I would export all clips from FCP in one single track and then convert the track using Compressor.

I'm having the exact same issue. This DVD is one of 6 I've designed this exact way this past week, and none of the others have had issues. The menu has a play all button that plays all 13 clips that are on track 1. The menu also a button for each clip that plays its story. I tried muxing each clip individually in a new project and they all were successful. I can't figure out why this one is failing when all the others are compressed and build the same way, even though they are different projects.

In the end I didn't really solve the problem. I tried to render every track separately in new projects, and that actually dit work, except for the track with all the clips in it. So I decided to make the dvd without a 'play all' option. Maybe a bit dissapointing, but it did work...
If you ever find a solution, please tell!
Good luck ;)

I'm about to try rebuilding the whole project from scratch. I've tried recompressing the videos, copying the file, performing the build operation on another computer, transferring all the videos to a brand new DVD project with the first play as the track....none of it worked. I'm inclined it has something to do with my markers in the track.

So after much trial and error I've found a solution that makes absolutely no sense. After realizing that the DVD mux failed at the same percentage each time (94%), I decided to test if it was the number of clips on the track or a specific one. It ended up being neither. After changing THE ORDER of the last three clips in the track it muxed perfectly. I know it makes no sense at all, but it works.

really? you're right, that makes no sense...
well, next time I get this error, I'll try that too, see if it works.
thanx for your updates!
