How to change title number? How do it know? Do U Know?
by Jeff Coleman (Countdown) on Sep 26, 2008 at 1:28:29 am

First a wee bit of background:

DVDSP 4.2.1 MacIntel Octobox 10.4.11.
My first play is to "Track 1" which end jumps to menu "1".
This works in DVD Player and in the Simulator and I think will be fine in a regular set-top player.
But it doesn't work in my Sony DVD recorder. The disc loads, but like all other DVDs the screen is blank after loading and I have to hit either the Menu button or the Play button to get something to happen. Unfortunately this disc is like the others and in that it doesn't play the "first play" item (whether script, or track, or menu) when the play button is pressed, but plays what it thinks is "Title 1", which is actually my "Track 7". So...

How do I make my "Track 1" become "Title 1" so that even the DVD recorder will play it as the first track?

And how do these title numbers (see SPRM 4) get assigned to the track?

Sounds like a player issue. Track 1 is VTS 1, title 1. SPRM 4 is just the current title playing. Some players will seek title 1 but not sure why your seeing title 7?

Thanks Eric.

Hmmmm.
VTS 1=Title 1
Right?
If so, then how does DVDSP determine which track becomes VTS1?
The track I label as "Track 1"?
The first track I create?
The top track in the outline view?
or what?

I don't really think the title problem is peculiar to the player because the Simulator shows SPRM 4 of Track 1 as Title 2, and SPRM 4 of Track 7 as Title 1, paralleled in the title list order of the Sony recorder/player.

The first track in the Outline is VTS 1. If you want to see which tracks & tiles are what, download a version of myDVDAfter:

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/myDVDEdit

or a copy of DVDAfterEdit:

http://dvdafteredit.com/

This will realy help and determining whats what.

Well...
Somehow that's not happening in my version of DVDSP if I follow the logic.
The first track in my outline I called "Track 1" and it shows up as "Title 2" in SPRM 4 while the seventh track in my outline I called "Track 7" and it shows up as "Title 1". So that means my "Track 1" as first in outline should be VTS 1. But it's not.
I've downloaded myDVDedit and I'll see if that shows any different on Monday.

Never trust the simulator...its full of bugs:

open your build with MyDVDEdit and let us know what it says.

Jeff,

It's DVD SP's 'VTS View' in the Outline Tab (hidden at first by default, usually) that will show you how the Tracks and menus have been finally arranged on the disc. In there, you can drag and plop the Tracks and menus to arrange their order as they'll be written to the final disc.

The Outline view object ordering has no bearing whatsoever on the final order of the Tracks on the disc, as it used to determine it, before the manual VTS Menu allocation feature was added in DVD SP 4.0.

Take care,

Trai

That's what were were saying...or at least thought we were. Any idea about the simulators reading of SPRM 4?

Hi Eric,

You were incorrect when you said "The first track in the Outline is VTS 1".

It's the first Track in the VTS View that's VTS 1, which is often completely different than how the Tracks are lined up in the Outline View.

Jeff appears to have 'Track 7' in the first VTS, which can be immediately confirmed when he opens up the VTS View, for the first time.

Note: Any Stories will count as separate Titles too, thus affecting SPRM 4.

Take care,

Trai

Ah..I see. I have never used the Outline view so must have gotten that confused with the VTS view. Sorry Jeff ...Trai is correct...again! :0

Trai,
Thank you! The old VTS view in the outline tab did the track. Exactly right. I could move Track 1 into VTS 1 position and Track 7 into VTS 7 position from that view. The "Menus" and "Scripts" always stayed with Track 7 though. I guess you can't really move them out of the VTS they're in? It didn't seem to make any difference far as I could tell in the final DVD.
When I play the DVD in the Sony recorder the first thing that plays now is Track 1. The only thing is that it skips my first play script, but I've added a pre-script to the track to overcome it.
I still don't know how Track 7 became VTS 1, I may do a little experimenting later to see if it has something to do with the order I created the tracks originally.
Thanks again.
