GPRM needed for different & conditional playback?
by Wolfgang Niederhoffer on Sep 3, 2008 at 6:50:14 pm

Hi Folks,
I'm doing a fairly simple dvd build for a client but there's one problem. I'll lay out the DVD breakdown and hopefully someone will have a solution that either doesnt involve GPRM or involves some simple scripting (that hopefully you could lay out in a simple way for me) as I'm new to GPRM implementation.

I've got a main menu then two separate sub menus.
The main menu has three buttons: menu1, menu2 and basically a 1+2 play all function that would play all the clips found on menu1, then jump over and play all the clips found on menu2.

Menu1 will have buttons for each individual clip (about 20), plus a play all button. That all works fine.
Menu2 will be the same, but with 20 different clips and a play all button for another track.

I've got a single track for each menu separated into chapters and I'll have each individual button on each menu link to a chapter with the dvd looping back to the menu after finishing one track - unless of course play all is selected.

My issue is from the top menu as already stated. I tried using a story to make the play all button on the top menu play the complete track on menu1. To do this I told the chapter marker on that track to jump to the beginning of the other track. So far that hasn't worked in simulation.

I may be getting in over my head here, but it seems like there should be a simple way to fix this. I've got a deadline approaching and I don't want to tell them its impossible. That's never a good thing to hear from an editor. Plz help me out if possible. Oh, and there's not enough room on the disc to just make a 3rd track with all the chapters from both menus on it.

THANKS!

You could use a track with all 40 of your clips in it for your main play all and then 2 stories with each of the 20 clips for each menu's play all and then a separate story for each video you want to play and then go back to your menu.

Not sure it it's what you need, but page 512 of the manual has an example of how to do a "play all" script.
