Vids play in DVDSP, no burn

H.264 is incompatible in DVDSP 4?? Meaning... it can't re-encode that? Something has to be wrong.
Also, why can I import video assets in whatever format, and they simulate and play in DVDSP but then fail in the burn?
The encoding is being done within DVDSP... if it can play the file, why can it not encode the file? I would expect an error at import rather than get to the burning stage to find out a clip won't encode... is there a preference to set for this?
I have background encoding so it starts automatically but wow.
