Subtitles created for DVD-SP project to Blu Ray

We have a project where we are doing the DVD and we are using an outside source for the Blu Ray version (plus a Digital Cinema release also). The film is subtitled and we have created the subs as we usually do (externally) as an STL for import into DVD-SP
No problem... except when they are converted to use in the Blu Ray (and it appears the Digital Cinema version)
The problem is that in several instances we have had to put subtitles at the top and bottom of the screen or move their position so as to not obscure other elements on screen. This is no problem in DVD-SP but appears to be a problem when it comes to Blu ray (which i believe uses XML for its subs?). There seems to be no way of moving the subs to the top of the screen, of having a longer than two line subtitle (not ideal I know...) etc. The format used for Blu ray seems to be very limiting
Does anyway (Alex maybe) have any experience of this - less of a problem on the Digital Cinema as they can be burnt in as it's not being shown without subs

Maybe the question should be:
Does anyone around these parts know what software you can use to create subtitles that which can be used in a Blu ray title if we have the subs as an STL file. It seems the format is BDN XML usually with 8Bit PNG files...

There's really no specific tool used to create BDN files. Any tool allowing you to write out an xml file should do - even NotePad. Best to leave it to the folks doing the authoring. An STL and BDN XML are 2 different things.
