Things are working- Compression Settings question
by Les Kaye on Apr 6, 2008 at 1:30:01 am

I redid the QT conversion to mpg 2 in Compressor, and was able to do TWO 90 minute shows in 3 hours or so (instead of 20 hours for one - don't know what happened).

Both exports were set for Best 120 min. 16:9, and One Pass CBR. The average bitrate for one was set at the default 5.0 and yielded a file size of 3.43 GB, the second, the average bitrate of 7.7 resulted in a 5.29 GB file size. I imagine the first will fit on a single layer DVD, the second on DL. I'd rather do the first if nothing is terribly compromised. This is a filmed play with very little fast action.

Meaning:
The DVDs are for non-commercial use. There will be a total of 10 DVDs made. Will the difference in the bitrates I used be noticeable, or rather not that noticeable?

Thanks for the help so far.

It really all depends on your footage.

When you watch it back, do you see large amounts of compression artefacts? Are they distracting enough to annoy your client?

If you can't see problems during playback, then you're home free. It really is a judgement call that can only be made by looking at the thing.

Cheers,
Ben
