I am pulling my hair out with a problem that I've been working on for a couple of days. I'm producing 3 DVDs at the same time all with CC. 2 worked without a hitch and the 3rd won't no matter what I try. I've been told by the CC company that created the file that this happens with Studio Pro 1 out of 10 times and they won't use it when programming CC. Below are the specifics and what I've tried:

Are you certain that the timecode of your mpeg2 encode matches the timecode of your .scc file?

It could happen that your mpeg2 file has a timecode of 00:00:00:00 and your .scc starts at 01:00:00:00. This happens alot with CC and subtitle files I get from third parties.

you can reset the timecode stamp of your mpeg2 encode (to match your .scc) using Mpeg Append if needed.

good luck with your project.

Mark...I downloaded a trial version of Mpeg append and tried it out and it's still not working, although I think I'm getting closer. I'm also having the CC company reoutput the file because when I look at it though textedit it's TC doesn't begin at 01:00:00:00 and the other two CC files for the DVDs that worked, did.

My question as I continue to work the problem is why I can't see the correct TC when I open the m2v file in QT? I've used MPEG Append and gone into Compressor and changed it so the TC would start at 1 hour and still when I view the files in QT they start at 00:00:00:00. How can I check that the video file has output correctly?

You can check the timestamp of your m2v file in DVDSP.

Import the file and look in the "Assets" tab.
Right-click (or ctrl-click) on the top bar where you see "name. Status, In Use... etc.
A list of options should pop up.... "Timestamp" is toward the bottom of the list.

Another way is to simply click on the m2v file after it is imported and look in the inspector window. This will show you size, framerate, aspect, as well as timecode IN and OUT.

Third way is to drop your m2v file into a track in DVDSP and right-click in the grey space that shows the track timecode... you should get the option for "zero-based" or "asset-based".... you want "asset-based" to see the timecode stamp of the encode.

My workflow for this issue is to first open the CC or subtitle file and determine the start timecode... then open the m2v with mpeg append and reset the timestamp to match.

good luck with your project

[Suzy Shaw] " I've been told by the CC company that created the file that this happens with Studio Pro 1 out of 10 times and they won't use it when programming CC." That is just stupid, Makes no sense at all.

[Suzy Shaw] "Some close caption data does not fall within the video timecode range and is being skipped"
None of the things you have tried deal with the TC. Just try what Mark said.

I did have this CC issues yesterday where the CC file wouldn't show up for a Mpeg2 stream but it would show up on the full rez QT movie file. Both have TC starting at 00:00:00:00. Don't know why that happens but the CC guy said it happens with DVDSP sometimes.

Anyone had this issue before?

This is a bit off from what you are all talking about here but I just learned today that DVDSP only works when the .scc file is formatted as "Pop-on" not "Roll-on."

I thought I'd let you know this as well as posting it in my thread too as its a related issue.
