 | HD DVD on a windows computer
by Winston A. Cely on Oct 26, 2007 at 3:00:13 pm |
So I created an HD DVD on my end and I can play it and it looks incredible! Here's the thing. The client came by and picked it up to show at a meeting. I was under the impression he was showing it on a Toshiba HD DVD player (like the one I went to best buy and tested the DVDs on) but he's trying to play it on his laptop. Apparently it's not working. What are our options? I have no idea since I don't use Windows computers....

Well first off I highly doubt that his laptop can even play ANY HD DVD.
I would make the video into a file that he can play.
Also please remember that not all Toshiba HD DVD players will play a HD DVD from DVD SP, so unless you know 100% that theirs will, I would not risk it.

The problem is that efficient HD codecs for Mac (Prorez, DVCPRO HD) will not work on PC. And good PC codecs (Avid's DNxHD, WMV HD) are not available on Macs. Your best bet may be h.264 in HD via compressor, but I'd run a test first on your client's PC to make sure it works.
